The Matzo Ball
In celebration of the festival of lights, members of the Jewish Community in Portland, OR bring together a gathering of musical stars for a night of food, fun, dancing, drinking, music and giving, with performances by:

Vursatyl of Lifesavas: Vursatyl is a staple in the music scene of PDX as one of the lyricists of the legendary group Lifesavas. There’s not much to say about a man everyone in this city knows – albums on Quannum Records, tracks with Blackalicious, countless parties and shows and one of the most entertaining MC’s in the world of hip hop.

Philly’s Phunkestra: From the rich jazz and jam band corners of Chicago to New Orleans’ heavy Southern funk tradition comes Philly’s Phunkestra Soul Orchestra, an eight-piece rhythm and horn jazz orchestra. Experimenting with a sound both boldly imaginative and well seasoned, the Phunkestra’s members are unafraid to congeal classically trained chords to modern pop influence, resulting in songs that are warmly toned and tinged with the George Clinton school of atypical.

Based in Portland, Oregon, Phunkestra’s members have traveled globally, sharing stages with the Wu-Tang Clan, Ziggy Marley, Michael Franti & Spearhead, K’naan, Israel Vibration and Dirty Dozen Brass Band. These collaborative bills have helped shape the band’s sound, allowing them a wealth of live arena experience.

Dr. Adam: Hot Mess/Townbombing/Snap/Massive resident DJ Doctor Adam, whose mixtape for street wear site Karmaloop hit over 20,000 downloads (grab it here if you don’t have it - http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ixmkyxx5i5f) will be holding it down as he always does for the city of Portland. Those that don’t know his name must not go out in this city as he is invited to play everywhere! With his own edits, blends and remixes, Dr. Adam is more than a threat on the decks, as he brings his own style to production and live mixing, while always bringing the party.

Dante LaSalle: With his solo debut complete in 2007, Dante made noise from Detroit through the US and to the world with his signature delivery and perspective on life in the US and Hip Hop today. In 2007 Dante was again featured on the Van’s Warped Tour, released his fast selling FixTape, toured Europe three times, self-released his second piece of vinyl the Tucker Stomp 12″ and reached number two on the CMJ hip hop charts w/ Roaming Empire. People who know Dante are still never prepared for what he brings to a live performance. Try to get ready.

The Matzo Ball will also serve as a non-profit fundraiser for the Sunshine Pantry (We hope that guests can bring a canned food item donation when attending!). The Sunshine Pantry is a local non-profit organization offering food, clothing, household items, toys and toiletries to families in need in Oregon. The Pantry spreads warmth, happiness and love to everyone who comes through their doors in trying times.
