Martin Luther King Jr. Day Basketball Invitational

I am ( Clinton Taylor ) very excited about the opportunity to host this event because since I announced this event a few weeks ago I have learned that this will be the first actual celebration of it’s kind in this school ever. So I’m honored to have a chance to bring Dr. King to George Middle School students, staff and family. I hope you will join me either by attending or hopefully participating. What: Martin Luther King Jr. Day Basketball Invitational and Celebration

When: On January 15th 2010 from 4:20pm to 8:30pm. Two basketball games followed by our guest speaker, student performances, with Food, Music, and Prizes.

Where: University Park Community Center 9009 N. Foss Portland OR. Your attendance and or participation at this event is much needed and would be highly appreciated.

Why: During a recent life skills class I was facilitating here at George I asked my students if they would like to help me prepare for this event and not to my surprise several of the students asked me WHO IS DR. KING?? and what’s the big deal?

When you look at the time frame 4:30 to 8:30pm keep in mind we will be having two basketball games to kick off the event. During the short half time of both games we will have a short performance from some of our dance students.

Once the two games have concluded we will transition into a more formal celebration with music, food, more entertainment and a guest speaker who will address the crowd for about 15 minutes to speak about Dr. King and his legacy.
